headspace concentration

   A technique for concentration all or most of the flammable or combustible liquid vapors in a sample onto a tube of charcoal, a wire coated with charcoal, a charcoal coated polymer, or some other adsorbing material which will later be desorbed in order to analyze the concentrated vapor. This is a primary form of sample preparation in arson debris analysis. This is also known as adsorption/elution, vapor concentration, or total headspace.
